Anthropomorphized
Weeping Poster
45 x 68 inches
2006
This poster embodies its message as it weeps. The text is Lorem Ipsum, a section of which roughly translated says: "Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure." This is one of seven life-sized posters that explore trompe l-oeil, emotional ornamentation, and the anthropomorphized graphic design object. Ink-jet print.
For my MFA thesis I designed a set of subway posters that hang at eye level and have a relationship to the scale of an adult body. Each poster investigates historical examples of the use of the human body as a communication tool in graphic design in order to explore the possibility a self-reflective graphic design object.
